Ostara all around

HAPPY VERNAL EQUINOX (also known as Ostara) in the northern hemisphere! There are signs of spring all around—we’ve been hearing robins for the past few weeks here on the farm and finally saw one last week. The Canadian and snow geese are returning and the maple sap is running. The snow has melted away, the sun is strengthening, and mud season is upon us.

It’s felt like spring here on the farm since mid January though. We’ve been slowly but surely plugging away at the seeding schedule, tending greenhouse seedlings and the overwintered plants in one hoop house, and transplanting hardy annuals into the other. Two of the three hoop houses are completely full of spring flowers now—campanula, foxglove, snapdragons, nigella, Icelandic poppies, larkspur, delphinium, and more!

The farm this time of year always feels so exciting and hopeful. I’m grateful for another season.
